sewing curtains

These were taken on June 17

This was a very exciting day.
Laurie is fantastic. I could not have done it without her. On Mother's Day we spent the day shopping and found our way to the fabric store. I had found some fabric that I LOVED a week earlier and had decided it was time to go for it. I can't sew worth anything, so I asked Audrey's mom if she would teach me. Jonathan and I measured the windows in the living room, and Laurie and I figured out how much fabric we would need. Then a month later, we found the time to make them. Hooray! Here's the process. I was very excited the entire time. We made 4 panels and it took about 3 hours. :)

First we measured, trimmed and cut all the pieces.

Then we sewed!

I'm very excited.

Then we attached the rings.

And hung them up. Ta da!

Thanks Laurie!

makeup bag tutorial

I love sewing tutorials. I don't currently sew, but I'd like to. I remember sewing things with my mom when I was a little kid, but that's about the last time I've done something crafty with sewing materials.

My friend Audrey and I have decided to embark on sewing adventures this summer. We've planned to make a skirt and I want to make some curtains for the living room. I found this fabulous fabric at the fabric store a couple weeks ago, I need to go buy it all before it's gone. Anyway, this makeup brush holder also looks like something I'd be interested in.

If you want to try it yourself, go here.

tutu for my 22 birthday!

Today is my birthday! To add to the festivities, I'm wearing a fun tutu to work.
It's perfect that today also happens to be casual day. I must recommend this to everyone on their birthday, particularly if you're turning 22. I'm having so much fun!

This morning I asked Jonathan to take some pictures of my new tutu. I made it last night at Audrey's while watching the Olympics. I must say, this winter has taken a turn and I'm enjoying it more than I thought possible. I've been well for almost 2 weeks and that seems like a record!

Materials:
8 yards of tule (I used 4 yards of two different colors)
1 ribbon to match (long enough to wrap around your hips with a little extra left over to tie)

Instructions:
1. Cut the ribbon to your desired length.
2. Cut the tule into 4-inch wide strips. Leave the material doubled.
3. Make a loop with each strip of tule around the ribbon, one at a time.
4. Once finished, try it on and trim the tule to your desired length. Try different lengths to give it some texture. I also cut the strips at a diagonal from the bottom.
5. Go out and play!

*If you want to  make your own and have questions, leave a comment and I'll try my best to answer.

Thanks to Tess for the original idea - you looked so rad skating in your tutu last summer that I had to join in on the fun. Also, thanks to Nicole for the idea to make my own! It's greater than I ever imagined!

paper cups

This cups have endless possibilities. They remind me a little of the nose cups my friend Shannon got us for Christmas. I hope a US company picks these up to sell because I'd love some. Currently they are available here, but without any option for international shipping.
Enjoy the photos!

a knit chair

Remember this post? Well that knit chandelier wasn't enough. Check out this sweet chair! Sweet Paul just posted it and I wish I had some knit sweaters to hot glue to a funky wood chair. And...he's coming out with a magazine. Eep!

J and I are going to have a low-key weekend at home this time. I can't wait.

knit lamp shades and more

Isn't this the perfect look for a cozy, wintery cabin?
Today we had a partial snow day at work. We got to start at 10 am.
However, I wish there was more snow on the ground so I could go outside and play...and perhaps not so cold. It's currently 22°F with a windchill of 11°F. Yikes!

For instructions to make this lamp shade, visit Sweet Paul.

Happy weekend!
